The first of the fleet of 8 new barges arrived in the Thames on 15th May and loaded her first cargo from the Northern Line Extension Project’s Battersea loading facility the following day.
The first barge in the series the GPS 1605 is due to be delivered on 29th May and will also enter service immediately in support of the Ferrovial Laing O’Rourke Northern Line Extension Project.
6 more new barges in the same series, will joint the fleet over the coming 14 months. These barges, which were designed to carry a minimum of 1600 tonnes on 3.5m draft are actually capable of carrying 1750 tonnes at the design draft.
