- In December 2018 the tug GPS Ionia re-entered service following a major refit and life extension work. In addition to work on the main and auxiliary machinery, work included the fitting of a new propeller shaft, extensive replating of the hull, new stern fender, a complete refurbishment of the accommodation and the installation of a total retention sewage system. The refit and refurbishment is primarily intended to enable the tug to fulfil the role of principal berthing tug at East Tilbury in support of the Company’s 1.9m tonne Tideway Tunnel Project marine spoil transport contract, for which Ferrovial Laing O’Rourke is once again its client.
