On 15th November (2021) GPS Marine collected it’s second Green Apple Environmental Best Practice Award of the past 4 years. This Green Apple Transport Sector Gold Award was made for GPS Marine’s work transporting materials by barge on the Tideway Tunnel Central Section, and it’s achievements in adopting the use of renewable fuel and reducing emissions from its fleet. The change to using 100% renewable fuel in the Thames tug fleet has reduced net carbon emissions by 90% with no deterioration in performance or increase in maintenance costs. The change to renewable fuel (hydrogen treated vegetable oil) has also created significant reductions in NOx and particulates emissions, whilst eliminating SOx emissions completely.
